Visit your sponsored child

Many of our supporters build a strong bond with their sponsored children and express the wish to meet their sponsored child in Africa.

A visit to the child you sponsor and his/her community is a rewarding way to see the benefits of your contribution and put a real face to all the letters and cards you have been exchanging.

If this interests you, please contact us at least four months before your intended departure date and before you make any travel bookings. It can take some time to communicate information back and forth with our field offices and the remote communities. There is a great deal of organisation required to help ensure your visit is a safe and enjoyable as possible. In order to be compliant with our Child Protection Policy (link), you will also require Garda clearance.

Please contact Sam in our Supporter Care Team on 1850 366 283 or ireland@wvi.org and he will provide you with all the details you need.

Join us on our Sponsor Trip to Swaziland! Alternatively, join us in November 2011 on our once in a lifetime trip to Swaziland. See how your donations make a real difference in a community and experience all this country has to offer.

A visit to North Rukiga, Uganda

Corrie on her sponsor visit to UgandaCorrie Latham has been a sponsor with World Vision Ireland since 2006 and in July 2009 she visited her sponsored child in Uganda.

North Rukiga ADP is located in the mountainous region of Kabale in South-West Uganda along the Rwandan border. It is home to about 70,000 people. Corrie's monthly contributions ensure that priority challenges in the area such as tackling HIV and AIDS, improving health services and education are continuously improving in the area.

Before meeting her sponsored child Sarah who is ten year old, Corrie met with the local World Vision staff who introduced her to the ADP programme. They also went to see a number of primary schools that were currently being built by the community with the support of World Vision and Irish Aid. The education infrastructure in Kabale is now among the top in the country, thanks to our strong partnership with the community and our generous sponsors!

Corrie's final stop on her tour of the ADP was a visit to Sarah and her family. "It was great to finally meet the child I had been sponsoring and her family and friends", Corrie tells us. Sarah was also very excited to welcome her sponsor to her home.

Corrie reflects on the over trip and told us: "It was great to see how my sponsorship donations are being used to benefit the child, her family and community. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and learned a huge amount about World Vision and how they have helped to develop the North Rukiga region."
