Through sponsoring a child in Africa, not only are you helping a child out of extreme poverty, but you can also build a relationship with that child and learn first-hand about life in their community.
You can write letters to the child you sponsor, send cards on special occasions and, if you choose, the occasional (small) gift.
In return, you’ll receive letters direct from the child and you'll see how your sponsorship is making a difference to him/her.
The children get a great amount of enjoyment out of the letters. Knowing that someone so far away cares about them and hearing about what life is like in Ireland.
Letters can take a few weeks to arrive with your sponsored child as they are translated by our national office staff and then delivered to often far flung areas of the ADP. In turn, replies can often take quite long (up to 6 months) for some countries. If the children are not at a writing age yet, letters are written by parents or neighbours before being delivered to our national office for translation and postage back to Ireland.
