Super Goat to the rescue

55 year old widow Regina Kilile lives in the Mutonguni Area Development Programme in Kenya with her seven children. Life was hard for Regina who was juggling taking care of her children, household chores and trying to find income to buy food and other necessities for her family.

A member of the goat keeping group presents his goatThe local goat keeping group supported by World Vision invited her to join them and she received a Toggenburg goat from an Irish donor.

The Toggenburg is a substantially larger breed than the local African goats – however is perfectly suited to the challenging weather and grazing conditions. And best of all it produces double the meat, milk and offspring of local goats…that’s why we call it our Super Goat!

How has the Super Goat affected Regina’s life?

Regina tends to her goat from the Community Gift catalogue“The goats require tending only in the morning and evenings when they are fed and milked. This gives me enough time to work on my other duties and take care of my children,” explains Regina. The milk the goats produce has greatly impacted on her family’s diet and any surplus is sold in the market. The income generated covers the cost of food for the goat as well as other items the family needs such as food or school fees. “I will be able to put my children through school thanks to this generous donation from a kind friend in Ireland.”
