Sponsorship stories

Sponsorship is an experience for you – the sponsor here in Ireland – and of course for the children and communities in Africa.

But don’t just take our word for it, have a read about what sponsored children and sponsors here in Ireland have to say!

Gift from Uganda

“My husband Gerry and I sponsor a little girl called Gift from Uganda. We get letters from her and we really look forward to receiving them. The improvement in her writing and little pictures she draws is great to see!” – Paula and Gerry Russell, Co Kildare.

Sponsor Aisling Ryan visiting her sponsored child in Uganda. If you’d like to read more about sponsoring a child in Uganda, read Aisling Ryan's story of her travels to the country in 2010 and her unforgettable meeting with Gabriel, her sponsored child.

Another great story about sponsors meeting their sponsored children is written by our patron Pauline McLynn who visited Tanzania with fellow actor and patron Victoria Smurfit.

Brownie points

The Howth Brownies sponsor a seven year old girl from Tanzania. Tanzania is also where some of our youngest but biggest supporters sponsor a seven year old girl: “The Howth Brownies sponsor Nyamizi from Tanzania. It is a terrific thing as each Brownie gets to know and love Nyamizi. I would recommend child sponsorship to any family. The satisfaction you get from doing it is something else!” – Lua Clarke, Howth Brownies.

If you’d like to see more of Pauline McLynn and her travels, check out the feel good film of the year ‘A Taste of Kenya’! Pauline explores what happens when a community is ready to do it alone. It's in Kenya also that former sponsored child Justus Kizito entered parliament!

Finding it hard to go without sponsorship

School children in Mutonguni ADP KenyaA community in Kenya also plays a part in Evelyn Cathalin’s life: “The community of Mutonguni, Kenya where I sponsor a child has put in place various projects for things that my family would find hard to go without for a day. Water tanks, basic sanitation and improved education for everyone are only a few examples. I receive regular reports and can see see that our sponsored child’s health has improved, and because of that, her grades in school have improved. I would urge everybody who can, to sponsor a child as it is so worthwhile and I hope to be able to continue for many years to come!”

Sean Murphy describes his experience of sponsorship like this: “By sponsoring a child through World Vision Ireland I'm able to understand hardship through ongoing communication, realise potential in humanity, and share a common desire to make a difference by a skip into the unknown, a jump into conviction, and by following a leap of faith.”

Experience it for yourself!
