Speaking about the jump, solicitor Barry O’Connor said “Earlier this year my tag rugby team decided to do something fun as a group. We'd been mountain biking and hiking and that kind of thing, but this time one of the lads suggested sky diving.
“Some loved the idea and others hated it, but we had a core group willing to do it. Knowing the difference it could make to so many people, I suggested we raise money for World Vision at the same time.”
The group of friends set about raising money while arranging to make the jump with the Irish Parachute Club in Edenderry, Co. Offaly
“Some of us couldn't wait to jump out of a plane, but others really had to fight their fears to go through with it.” explains Barry.
“The moment the plane door opens at 10,000ft it brings about a feeling you don't forget in a hurry!”
All the jumpers paid for the skydive themselves so every cent collected will go directly to World Vision.
“As a group, we got €4,500 in the end.” says Barry. “We were well pleased with that, especially the guys who jumped in fear rather than excitement!”
Barry also sponsors a child in Uganda through World Vision. Speaking about why he became a sponsor Barry said “A friend of mine, Tara, is involved with World Vision Ireland and she'd just been on a trip to Sierra Leone.
Having heard first hand from her what good work World Vision Ireland does and how much of a difference a small amount of money each month can make in a child's life, I figured for the price of a couple of pints a month, I'd like to make that difference.”
World Vision would like to thank everyone for taking part in the skydive and for their tremendous fundraising effort.
