Runners from Offaly, Donegal and Dublin will take part in this weekend’s Dublin marathon for World Vision Ireland.
Aine Harkin and her fiancée Jeremy Stanley have been training hard for the past seven months.
“I don’t think I’d have got through the training if it wasn’t for Jeremy. It made such a difference to have company on the long runs. We were able motivate each other as we both knew how the other was feeling” says Aine.
“World Vision is such a worthy cause” says Aine. “I really believe in the work they do. It makes such a difference to the lives of so many needy children. I’d really appreciate any support people could give.”
Tullamore man Jamie Hughes is also getting to run on Monday for World Vision. “This will be my first marathon. I love sports and being active but I’m certainly not a runner and definitely not designed for running. It’s going to be a challenge.”
“I’ve always been someone to fundraise for charity, more often than not though by personal humiliation rather than personal exhilaration. "
More than 13,000 people have signed up to take part in this year’s Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin marathon.
The event raised in excess of €10 million for Irish charities last year.
The gruelling 26.2 mile race starts at 9.00am at Fitzwilliam Square and finishes at Merrion Square in the city centre.
World Vision Ireland would like to wish everyone taking part in the marathon the very best of luck!
