Boast, brag and blog about giving up lunch for Horn of Africa

World Vision Ireland is asking you to give up your lunch this week and donate €5 to our Horn of Africa drought appeal! We also want you to tell everyone you know about it by blogging, bragging, tweeting and updating your Facebook status.

The social media campaign called #FamineNoMore kicks off from Monday (Aug 29th) until Wednesday (Aug 31st). Supporters and donors of World Vision offices from around the globe will help launch it in 13 different countries around the world.

Helen Keogh, Chief Executive of World Vision Ireland explains, “The idea is to get as many people as possible to go online over the three days and talk about what’s happening in East Africa. We want to generate a huge online discussion about this and let people know that there is something they can do to help.”

A great lunch deal

“As well as sharing video and thoughts on the crisis, people will be asked to skip a meal and donate the sum to East Africa. You might not think that giving up your sandwich and soft drink can change the world but it can make a huge difference. €5 can provide food for a family of 5 for a week – now that’s a great lunch deal!” added Helen.

Debbie Allen, a supporter of the charity and DJ with Dublin radio station Q102 says, “Changing your profile, sharing information with friends and generally talking about this crisis is an easy thing that anyone can do. It’s scary to think that Halloween, Christmas and New Year will all pass long before this crisis is predicted to end. We have to do more to help now.”

Over 12 million people are facing starvation across East Africa due to a severe drought. The UN has declared famine in parts of Somalia. World Vision is providing life saving aid including food, water, blankets and healthcare in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
