DJ Debbie Allen gets in shape for Flora Women’s Mini Marathon

30 May 2011

Q102 DJ Debbie Allen is getting in shape for the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon this Bank Holiday Monday June 6th.

Debbie Allen presents the Lovezone on Dublin radio station Q102 and is a regular contributor on TV3’s Midday show. Celebrity DJ Debbie Allen is getting fit for the Flora Women's Mini Marathon on June 6th

Speaking about why she’s taking part, Debbie said “I went back to the gym in January after nearly a year of being sedentary, by which I mean horizontal! I wanted to set myself a goal and up my level of fitness.”

“I also want to keep up some form of exercise after it as it would be a pity to turn into a slug again after all the hard work!” added Debbie.

Charity

Debbie is of course taking part in the run for charity.

“I’m doing it for World Vision Ireland as it’s a charity which is close to my heart. I sponsor a little girl through them, Nondudnzo who’s 7 and lives in Swaziland.”

World Vision is a child focussed aid agency working with communities living in poverty throughout Africa.

Swaziland

“Of course I’m also thinking of my trip down to Swaziland in November with World Vision to meet my sponsored child. I'd like to be able to breathe properly and move around in the African heat without dissolving into a huge sweaty mess!”

Helen Keogh, Chief Executive of World Vision Ireland, said “The mini marathon is a terrific event and we are very lucky to have Debbie and so many women taking part for us. I’m doing it myself for the first time this year with a few from the office. I’m really looking forward to it. The camaraderie between the women is fantastic and it’s great fun.”

Women wanted

The event, which sees over 40,000 women take to the streets of Dublin, raised €14 million for charity last year.

World Vision Ireland is looking for women of all ages and fitness levels to join their Mini Marathon team.

If you're already registered to take part then it's not too late to join Team World Vision. Just contact John for a fundraising pack including a World Vision t-shirt and sponsorship forms.
