“While overall funding has fallen in recent years we have found that Irish people have a great empathy with those suffering in the developing world and will give what they can when they can. The response to the Horn of Africa appeal, for example was overwhelming, with thousands donating what they could afford to those suffering in the famine stricken area.”
Ireland was ranked the most charitable country in Europe in 2011 and the second most charitable nation in the world, in a newly published World Giving Index from the UK's Charities Aid Foundation.
