World Vision Ireland not surprised that Ireland has been ranked 2nd most charitable country in the World
"The result from the report launched today does not surprise me. At World Vision Ireland we have found that despite the economic downturn, the Irish public has continued to give whatever it can to those less fortunate than them.” said Helen Keogh, Chief Executive of World Vision Ireland.
“While overall funding has fallen in recent years we have found that Irish people have a great empathy with those suffering in the developing world and will give what they can when they can. The response to the Horn of Africa appeal, for example was overwhelming, with thousands donating what they could afford to those suffering in the famine stricken area.”
Ireland was ranked the most charitable country in Europe in 2011 and the second most charitable nation in the world, in a newly published World Giving Index from the UK's Charities Aid Foundation.
