World Vision staff can be on the scene within 24 hours, bringing urgently needed food and supplies to people faced with a crisis.
But we can only do this with your help.
Unsanitary conditions and lack of clean water or disinfectant can mean even minor injuries can become life-threatening without medical attention, whereas prolonged emergencies such as a drought can leave children malnourished. World Vision provides food and medical treatment for children and families after a disaster as well as distributing emergency kits containing essential items like hygiene and shelter equipment along with cooking utensils.
In the chaos of an emergency, children often become lost or orphaned, making them vulnerable to trafficking, abuse and recruitment as child soldiers. World Vision searches for relatives and provides homes for children following an emergency.
Children and families often struggle to provide for themselves after an emergency. World Vision helps families in the long-term by helping to rebuild businesses and farms as well as providing training in alternative livelihoods.
Emergencies interrupt education and affect the physical and emotional development of children. World Vision sets up Child Friendly Spaces, which provide a sense of safety, structure and continuity amidst overwhelming experiences.

Ahmed and his mother live in Somalia; a country struggling with prolonged drought and without an effective government since 1991. He is severely malnourished when they first arrive at a World Vision Feeding Centre.

After the first two weeks of receiving care in the centre Ahmed has gathered strength.

Eight weeks into the programme and Ahmed has reached the proper weight for a child his age. He will continue to be monitored as severe malnourishment may have stunted his development.
