Our Team

World Vision Ireland is a child-focused overseas aid agency. We are part of World Vision International, the largest privately funded NGO in the world. With the help of over 4.7 million supporters worldwide we deliver clean water, education, healthcare and sanitation to over 120 million children in nearly 100 countries worldwide.

World Vision is committed to the poor.

We work with people of all cultures, faiths and genders to achieve transformation. We do this through development, relief, advocacy and always through collaboration.
Our strategy is directly working to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 6 crucial areas mother and child health, economic empowerment, water, education, child protection and food and agriculture.

We give a hand up, not a hand out and when we are no longer needed we leave a strong, skilled community to carve out their own future. World Vision Ireland’s long-term development work focuses on 11 Area Development Programmes (ADPs) in six African countries; Kenya, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Tanzania, Uganda and Swaziland.

What We Do –Community Empowerment

Develop communities:

Our approach to aid and development is unique-  we partner with communities, employ local staff and train community members.  By doing this we support each community to become independent and resilient so that they can provide the best possible future for their children.

Our integrated approach relies on the participation and ownership of community members at every step, freeing them to realize their potential. We give a hand up not a hand out.

Respond to emergencies:

World Vision has the size, experience and expertise to respond immediately when disasters happen. We employ a global network of disaster response experts who assess the impact of each disaster, plan the response and are on the ground within 24 to 72 of hours of a major disaster. Our reputation as “first in, last out” means that we are both an early responder and an on-going long term partner.

Advocacy- Justice for children

Advocacy is an essential element of World Vision’s work, alongside long-term community development and emergency responses. It is about challenging and changing the policies, practices and attitudes that make it difficult for vulnerable children and their families to escape living in poverty. We engage institutions, donors and governments to address the global issues that perpetuate poverty. Our advocacy is informed and driven by the children and communities we serve.

Child Sponsorship

Most of our development work is funded through child sponsorship. Many of our supporters have a unique connection with the children they sponsor and the communities their sponsorship supports. The money donated through sponsorship goes to the child’s community -supporting schools, health centres and livelihoods- giving the child’s family and community the best chance in life.

Maternal & Child Health

World Vision Ireland has a very strong focus on maternal and child health and we work closely with communities to ensure that mothers and their babies have access to the best nutrition, health services and sanitation so that they are given the best start in life. We are currently partnering  with Irish Aid on a maternal and child health programme, (AIM Health) targeting 75,250 pregnant women in 10 areas across Africa. Our goal is to reduce the numbers of Mothers and babies who die unnecessarily by 20% by 2016 in these areas.

Christian

World Vision is a Christian organisation. For us, that means that we carry out our work with a kind and compassionate ethos, working with people of all cultures, faiths and genders to achieve transformation. We do this in a holistic manner through relief and development, policy advocacy and change, collaboration, education about poverty, and emphasis on personal growth and social justice; at all times respecting individual dignity and beliefs.
