Help save a hungry child from starvation

Help save a hungry child from starvation

As you read this, children across Africa are suffering. They’re in desperate need of your help right now. Hunger keeps them awake at night. It stops them playing, learning, laughing. It robs them of their childhood and casts a shadow over their future. Childhoods are being wasted and futures blighted by hunger.

Could you give €20 to fund a month’s supply of nutritious food for four hungry children?

When desperate mum Nyibol brought her two-year-old son Nyane to a World Vision clinic in South Sudan, he was too weak to stand. He weighed just 16 pounds, around half the weight of a typical two-year-old in Ireland. Nyane was still and silent. His mum said the only sound he made was when he cried. He couldn’t even do that now. Nyane’s sister, aged seven, feared the worst for her little brother. “He’s very hungry,” she said. “I don’t think he will survive. I love him very much.”

The family had hardly any food and no money. They survived, barely, by eating a type of cereal, sorghum, once a day. But you can change that.

A gift of €20 could feed a malnourished children for a month. A steady supply of emergency food could save their lives.

Children in southern and eastern Africa are some of the most vulnerable in the world. Across South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Zimbabwe, millions of families are at risk of starvation. Consecutive years of drought are causing crops to fail and cattle to die, and forcing exhausted, hungry families to flee their homes.

In South Sudan alone, almost a million children will suffer acute malnutrition next year, unless we act now.

of malnourishment in newly admitted children.

Currently, across the world, only one malnourished child in every five gets the treatment they need to survive. But you can re-write that story. Thanks to the support of people like you, 89% of the severely malnourished children we’ve treated since 2014 have made a full recovery. With your help, we can treat, heal and prevent more cases of child malnutrition.

Can you help prevent malnutrition in vulnerable children? Just €20 could feed a child for two months.

If left untreated, malnutrition will kill vulnerable children like Nyane, or cause severe complications and affect their development. Millions of children like Nyane need our urgent help.

The situation is critical, and we must act now to save lives.

I’ve seen first-hand the heartbreaking sight of children and families suffering the awful effects of malnutrition. At this time of crisis, you can make a real difference with a gift of just €20.
