Community development is an integral part of
the work we do in World vision.
Community development is an integral part of the work we do in World Vision. Known to use as Area Programmes, they are long term
and child focused, with special attention paid to sustainable development. World Vision Ireland works in 5 Area Programmes
across three African countries – Mauritania, Tanzania and Uganda.
Within Community Development, there are four core elements– 1) APs (Area Programmes), 2) Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition, 3) Responding to Ebola, 4) Building Resilience to Climate Change.
Aps (Area Programmes support Communities between 15,000 and 50,000 people, and our facilitators are local people specifically trained to foster relationships within the community and to identify their individual needs and solutions. Our interventions focus on health, education, and child protection, and we encourage collaboration between communities and government. By doing this, we support each community to become independent and resilient so that they can provide the best possible future for their children.
Stories of Impact
In 2017, we were able to support more than 180,000 people, and with the support of our charity partners and the generosity of our donors, we hope to continue this important work long into the future.
Our Vision is a world where children live in sustainable communities.
