Children have the right to be heard on decisions that affect their lives, yet too often their participation in climate governance ends with consultation rather than influence. Drawing on research into children’s experiences of engaging in climate policy processes and an analysis of legal frameworks for participation, this policy brief explores how governments can move from listening to children’s voices to ensuring those voices help shape decision-making. It highlights practical barriers, identifies enabling factors for meaningful participation, and sets out recommendations for embedding child participation across climate governance systems.
