URGENT: Ebola is spreading across borders
Campaign Message
Children need you now.

Children in Sudan urgently need your help

Right now, Sudan is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and yet it remains dangerously overlooked. World Vision staff in Sudan are reporting the direst conditions for children's survival that they have ever seen.

For those living in Sudan and those who have fled to neighbouring countries, there is not enough food. And time is running out. More than 4 million children are acutely malnourished, including hundreds of thousands who are severely wasted, a condition that can become irreversible or fatal without urgent treatment. Could you step in today and help?

Hunger in Sudan does more than weaken a child’s body. It strips away family members, communities and dignity. In a country where meals are shared and no guest is turned away, parents are now forced to tell their children there is nothing to eat.

Can you imagine how heartbreaking and desperate it must be for parents to tell their hungry child they have no food to give?

This is not just a food crisis. It is a deepening humanitarian emergency, and without urgent action, more children will die.

Maab's struggle with malnutrition

Have you ever heard of VitaMeal? If you’ve never had to fight off malnutrition, you probably haven’t. Designed to be rich in vitamins and minerals, VitaMeal is a protein-rich rice that World Vision distributes worldwide like in Sudan.

To people like Hawa Adam...

“When my daughter was sick, I didn’t know what was happening to her,” Hawa says. “She was vomiting, she had a fever and diarrhoea. I had nothing in my hands to give her.”

Hawa is 25 years old and a mum. Her daughter, Maab, was just seven months old when she was diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition. By that time, conflict had already stripped Hawa’s community of safe livelihoods and access to food. Can you imagine the desperation and helplessness of Hawa and mothers like her?

“She became weaker and weaker; At the beginning of her treatment, it didn’t look like she was improving. I felt disappointed because I couldn’t help her.”

Through World Vision’s nutrition services, Maab was admitted for treatment. She received therapeutic nutrition and medical care. Slowly, she began to recover. Today, Maab is no longer severely malnourished and has been referred to a follow‑up nutrition programme to help her continue healing and growing stronger.

“I feel hope now,” Hawa says quietly. “My hope is that my children have complete health and well‑being.”

Across Sudan, millions of parents share Hawa’s fear and panic that their child may die from malnutrition.

Since violence escalated three years ago, families have been forced from their homes, markets have collapsed, and food prices have soared. Work opportunities have disappeared, especially for women. As the conflict drags on, children are paying the highest price.

World Vision continues to deliver emergency nutrition, health care, food assistance and clean water. But the needs are vast and growing. “For countless times, there is nothing at home,” Hawa says. “When my child was sick, I felt helpless.” No mother should have to feel helpless.

Your donation could ensure children and families get the essential nourishment they need. Today, your support can go even further. World Vision is the UN World Food Programme‘s largest partner, meaning your donation will help deliver lifesaving food assistance at scale, reaching more children, faster, in the areas hardest to access.

This partnership with the World Food Programme means your gift goes even further, your impact is multiplied through matched funding, helping to reach more children and families in this emergency.

Sudan is not just facing a crisis, it is the world’s largest humanitarian emergency. And yet, it remains a forgotten crisis, with millions of children still waiting for help that hasn’t come. When you give, you reach families who have nowhere else to turn. Your gift today can help provide urgently needed food to children on the brink of malnutrition in Sudan and across its borders.

Time is running out. But we know change is possible because we’ve seen it happen.

We have audited accounts that are publicly available at any time. As a charity, we're regulated by the Irish Charities Regulator – a legal body, which oversees all Irish charities and their activities.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we know that the continued support we receive is dependent on our efficient use of supporters’ money. Our Annual Reports are available here.
