Millions of children face challenging situations amid conflicts, disasters, and political unrest. Your support gave them a real fighting chance—a chance at hope and building a better future. For that, we want to thank you and express our gratitude. In 2024, your generosity created a significant and lasting impact on thousands of children’s lives. We have highlighted the stories that truly show how your dedication made real, lasting changes in the lives of those who needed it most.
Thanks to donors like you, we’ve provided vital support and opportunities to vulnerable communities in seven of the world’s most dangerous places: Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Mali, Honduras, the Philippines, and Lebanon.
In 2024, we doubled down our commitment to helping children in these vulnerable regions amidst escalating conflicts, heightened instability, inflation, and persistent food insecurity. The devastating impact of climate disasters also added to the global challenges. The severity of these critical challenges resulted in heart-breaking human suffering, with vulnerable children bearing the brunt of that burden, a reality all too often seen.

Here, we’ve rounded up some standout stories — and it’s all thanks to you!

Somalia
In 2024, Somalia faced relentless shocks, from devastating drought and ongoing conflict to economic instability, leaving millions struggling to meet their basic needs. Your help has brought hope and change to so many lives in Somalia! Thanks to you, children facing hunger and severe malnutrition have been fed, and vulnerable families can generate sustainable sources of income.
Your impact in action
Over 16,900 people, including 10,070 children (5,186 girls and 4,884 boys), were reached with essential items and skills to fight drought and create an income.
A closer look
- Over 500 households received essential hygiene items, like soap and water purification tablets, to improve their access to safe water and good hygiene practices.
- 150 women were equipped with financial literacy to effectively manage their savings through Village Savings and Loans Associations. They were able to launch small businesses like tea and clothing shops.
- 305 drought-affected households each received two goats and one sheep, creating a sustainable source of income for families.
- Cash funds were given to 242 drought-affected households to purchase food, water, and other essential items.

Mali
The spread of violence, together with economic instability, has created a challenging environment for families and children to thrive in Mali. Your contributions provided immediate relief for vulnerable families and gave many a way to support themselves and continue to grow. Your generosity is quite literally helping to pave the way for a brighter future for so many people in Mali.
Your impact in action
Over 476,000 people, including 133,334 children (75,214 girls and 58,120 boys), were reached with skills and training to overcome economic instability, create incomes, safe healthcare, and healthy nutrition practices.
A closer look
- More than 21,900 children and their parents benefited from strong, improved health services, ensuring they could access care when needed.
- 849 vulnerable and displaced children were kept in elementary schools, providing them with the knowledge and skills to live dignified and successful lives.
- Over 2,450 women were equipped to grow a wider range of crops like okra and onion. Not only does this create more healthy varieties to feed their families, but it also creates additional income when they sell their produce.
- 24,338 people were trained in good health and hygiene practices, learning how and when to access health services and the importance of proper, healthy nutrition for children.
- Over 1,100 women and men learned market gardening techniques, which created an additional source of income so that families no longer had to send their kids to bed hungry.
- 36 health workers participated in training on patient management, equipping them to best care for those needing services.

Lebanon
Your support has been pivotal in the heart of Lebanon. The nation continues to grapple with internal instabilities and economic challenges, and conflict in neighbouring countries compounding this. The influx of people seeking refuge in Lebanon contributes to an increasingly fragile and complex situation. Children bear the brunt of these difficulties, facing heightened struggles to find stability within this tumultuous environment. We are committed to staying the course to protect children in Lebanon, whether native or displaced while aiding the communities they are part of to survive and recover.
Your impact in action
Over 52,500 people, including 18,174 children (8924 girls and 9250 boys), were reached with critical support, like mental health services and literacy skills.
A closer look
- Educational and community activities, like Unlock Literacy, were carried out in four centres across Tripoli, reaching over 600 children. Unlock literacy equips students with the reading and writing skills they need for future success.
- Over 300 caregivers were equipped to best support their children’s educational and emotional well-being and create a supportive home environment where children can thrive.
- 26 small businesses were given grants to expand, strengthening the local economy. 64 businesswomen and 101 businessmen shadowed experienced business owners and attended sessions to strengthen their skills and knowledge on their entrepreneurship journeys.
- More than 168 community members gained skills in nursing and other trades, with an additional 120 community members gaining skills in marketing, sewing, food processing, and elderly care. This provides opportunities for stable employment and economic independence and contributes to strengthening vital community support services.
- Over 75 women participated in Positive Parenting sessions, enabling them to care for their children’s mental health and safety.

Honduras
A country dealing with a range of complications, including major economic struggles, soaring irregular migration, and volatile gang violence, requires a multifaceted approach to strengthen social cohesion and empower communities. Our overarching goals for Honduras’ programmes are centred on safeguarding children, promoting education and rights, fostering community participation, and influencing government institutions for policy changes.
Through your ongoing support, we’ve made a noticeable difference and are moving toward a lasting impact on the lives of thousands in Honduras.
Your impact in action:
Over 65,700 people, including 31,698 children (16,493 girls and 15,206 boys), were supported to strengthen child protection, benefit from clean water, and access healthy food.
A closer look:
- Safe spaces were provided for over 7,500 children living in conflict areas.
- 72 community workers were strengthened on methods of child protection to ensure children are prioritized and safe.
- 4500 humanitarian aid kits, benefiting over 11,600 people, were distributed, providing critical items for well-being like soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and deodorant, and contributing to the dignity of the most vulnerable.
- 133 community leaders were strengthened to better collaborate with the local government and private sector, benefiting over 44,000 individuals.

- More than 9,500 children and parents at 12 educational centres benefited from increased parental participation in school activities and building repairs.
- Over 130 women-led small businesses, like clothing and grocery sales, were strengthened, improving economic independence and well-being.
- 2,705 healthy food kits containing vegetables and grains were provided to vulnerable families, ensuring they had the most critical nutrients.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
In the challenging and violent landscape of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), your steadfast support has substantially impacted vulnerable communities facing complex crises.
Despite formidable security challenges posed by the disruptive and violent rebellions, our project remains focused on supporting families through agricultural resilience, health assistance, child protection, and women’s empowerment. Your help gave these remarkable people hope for a better future and crucial life-sustaining aid to help them survive! This is what that impact looked like!
Your impact in action:
Over 341,000 people, including 202,732 children (128,235 girls and 74,497 boys), were reached with skills and necessities to live strong, bright futures.
A closer look:
- 1,296 households participating in Savings 4 Transformation have improved their income and contributed to boosting the local economy through farming and other businesses.
- More than 9,800 people now have access to clean, safe water, reducing the rate of waterborne diseases.
- Over 500 families, including people who have been displaced, were equipped with the skills needed to pursue income-generating activities and provide for their children.
- 90 youth received vocational training, learning skills they will implement throughout their lives. Other skills that youth chose to learn include sewing and hairdressing! Over 50 of these youth also received literacy support to read, write, and do small calculations, laying the foundation for a strong entrepreneurial future.
- 700 children were treated for severe acute malnutrition and provided with essential nutrients, medicine, and medical advice to recover and thrive.
- Over 260 cooking demonstrations were given to over 1300 women now equipped to prepare nutrient-dense meals.
Philippines
In the cities of Marawi and Cotabato, Philippines, the ongoing displacements of siege-affected families, high levels of violence, child protection concerns, and various disruptions like floods and fires make life a real challenge, especially for vulnerable families.

Your impact in action:
Over 90,000 people, including 32,598 children, were reached with much-needed support and services.
A closer look:
- Over 6,450 children across 9 schools falling behind in their learning were provided the support they needed to continue.
- 7,000 learner kits were distributed to children who needed them most, ensuring they had the resources to learn effectively.
- Over 1100 parents and caregivers were trained to conduct activities supporting their children’s learning.
- 3100 out-of-school children and youth participated in accelerated learning programs to get their education back on track.
- 50 teachers were trained in mental health, psychosocial support, and psychological first aid to support their students best.
- More than 2600 children participated in sessions where they learned about children’s rights, enhancing their protection and agency. Through forming children’s councils, children are given a platform to speak out and advocate for their rights.
- 100 households started a small business or gained employment after participating in skills development training, allowing them to enhance their economic resiliency.

Afghanistan
This year, amid upheaval in Afghanistan, a continued ban on women’s education and work in specific fields, we persevered, prioritizing health, nutrition, and child protection despite these challenges.
With your support, we aimed to restore immediate access to essential services disrupted by the unstable situation created by and deepened by restrictive authorities’ decisions.
Your impact in action:
Over 126,600 people, including 39,697 children (22,002 girls and 17,695 boys), were positively impacted through greater child protection, health services, and clean water access.
A closer look:
- 63,679 people received comprehensive health and nutrition services like treatment for respiratory infections, routine immunizations, malnutrition treatment, and midwifery services.
- More than 31,800 vulnerable women living in rural areas received maternal and new-born care services.
- Over 2,100 people received Child Protection services, like psychosocial support, access to four child-friendly spaces, and parenting skills development sessions. Now, parents, community members, and children know more about children’s risks and rights.
- 40 community members were trained to identify, support and refer vulnerable children at risk of violence and abuse to the necessary support services.
- 200 vulnerable children received protection from violent and abusive circumstances.
- In total over the past year, over 9,100 people in six communities now have access to clean, safe drinking water after an earthquake destroyed the existing water supplies.

Expansion
Over the last few years, the scope of humanitarian disasters and crises has become longer and more complex. Together with challenges produced by climate change and conflict, the most vulnerable children and their families bear the brunt of the consequences. Now, more than ever, innovative approaches paired with your support are needed to make a lasting impact.
As a result, we are expanding Childhood Rescue to reach 11 countries and come alongside the most vulnerable children and their families. In 2025, thanks to you, we can’t wait to see the positive outcomes in these places:
