Flash flooding in Nepal has devastated already vulnerable communities. At least 160 people have died after flood waters broke from the Bhote Koshi River on 26 August. Hundreds are missing. Homes, markets, schools and bridges have been washed away. Families are cut off without electricity, internet or a way out of their village.
Even before this catastrophe, many families in rural areas were living in poverty. Children were especially vulnerable. Now, tens of thousands are without food, clean water or safe shelter.
Our local team is preparing to rush aid to children and families stranded in the flood zone. But they need your help urgently to provide survivors with emergency food, shelter supplies and other life-saving essentials.

Why did flash flooding occur in Nepal?
Scientists are still working out exactly what caused the flooding in Nepal. They think a huge landslide of ice and rock was the most likely cause.
On 26 August 2026, at around 8.30 am, a large amount of ice and rock broke away from a mountainside on the Tibetan side of the Nepal-China border.
The material crashed into the Lhende Khola River. Further down the mountainside, this river merges with the Bhote Koshi River. The result created a powerful surge of water, ice, rocks and mud that travelled quickly downstream into Nepal. The flash flooding has washed away entire villages. Thousands of families have been left without a roof over their heads. Over 160 people have died and hundred more are missing.
