Violence against children

Violence against children is a worldwide problem that has devastating, long-term effects. Violence often significantly harms children’s health, keeps them from school or social participation, and restricts them from realising their potential as adults.

World Vision Ireland is apart of The Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence and believes in a world without fear of violence against women and girls. Eliminating violence against children

Protecting children from violence in all its forms is challenging, urgent, and complex, but agencies and organisations working in child protection continue to work together to share understanding and knowledge of what works in reducing or ending risks of violence.

We here at World Vision are doing what we can to work in line with the Sustainable Development Goals for eliminating violence against children, and we have a number of interventions and a set of strategies that can effectively reduce and eradicate this problem.

Nila's fight for her future

Nila, now 17, came from a very poor family in Bangladesh when she joined a local World Vision sponsorship programme. She received school equipment and books, and could go to school more, where she learned about leadership and children’s rights. “It built up my confidence. So, when my parents wanted me to marry, I knew what to do. I talked to them and made them understand the bad effects of early marriage. I was so happy when they agreed to stop my marriage and I could continue my studies."
