United Nations General Assembly

The 78th session - September 2023

78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

The 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) opened on Tuesday, 5 September 2023. The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 19 September 2023.

The United Nations General Assembly brings together governments, civil society activists, faith partners, and UN leaders, providing a platform for World Vision and other NGOs to advocate for the needs and rights of vulnerable populations, particularly children in impoverished or crisis-affected regions. Here, we raise awareness about critical issues such as poverty, hunger, health, education, child protection, and violence against children, among others.

Our two events will be focused on the launch of our new Global Campaign: ENOUGH

We have ENOUGH. Let’s eliminate child malnutrition.
Let’s end child hunger now.

ENOUGH of the right foods — even in crises.
ENOUGH funding for nutrition.

ENOUGH food policies and services centred on and influenced by children.

Every child should enjoy ENOUGH nourishing food to thrive.

ENOUGH: We Have Enough to End Child Hunger

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 1:00 –2:00 PM at The Westin New York Grand Central Hotel, World Vision will launch a new campaign: ENOUGH. This High-Level event will feature child advocates and partners who will share the scope of our new campaign: there really is ENOUGH to end child hunger and malnutrition.

Annual Prayer Service for Children and Young People

Each year, World Vision leads in convening an Annual Prayer Service for Children and Young People to open the UN General Assembly Week together with partners.

We started this special ecumenical service in 2019, recognizing the crucial and life-changing decisions leaders make each year. We know that strong, ethical leadership – and the right shifts in policy and funding – can transform the lives of the most vulnerable children. And that requires prayer. Our annual prayer service will occur on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 3:00-4:30 AM.

Partners co-convening the Prayer Service are The Lutheran World Federation, Anglican Communion, Act Alliance, Caritas International, World Council of Churches, The Episcopal Church, The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and World Evangelical Alliance.

The service, led by Rev. Andrew Morley, will be held at Tillman Chapel of the United Nations Church Center. To attend virtually, please click here. To attend in person, please register below.
