Our Heroes

Ahead of Mother’s Day on the 22nd March, Liam Cunningham, Roz Purcell, Tara Flynn, Kevin McGahern, Baz Ashmawy, Jus de James and more of our wonderful supporters reflect on the important role #AmazingMums play in our lives, in this video.

World Vision Ireland understands the irreplaceable and vital role mothers play in our families, in our communities, and in the developing world.

Every day in 2017, approximately 810 women died from preventable illnesses or complications relating to childbirth and pregnancy. Almost all of these deaths occurred in developing countries. Tragically, almost all of these deaths were preventable.

However, the number of women dying during pregnancy and the number of children dying before the age of five is decreasing. Between 2000 and 2017, the maternal mortality ratio (MMR, number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births) dropped by about 38% worldwide.

Since 2011, World Vision Ireland has been implementing its maternal and child health programme (AIM Health) in several countries across East and West Africa which was funded by Irish Aid. Click here to find out more information about the work World Vision Ireland does on Maternal and Child Health
