The world's most vulnerable children are suffering the worst effects of the hunger crisis
Campaign Message
They urgently need your help.

In regions devastated by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters, millions of people face life-threatening challenges every day. The Acute Humanitarian Crises programme, supported by Irish Aid through the Ireland’s Civil Society Partnership (ICSP), enables World Vision Ireland to respond rapidly and effectively to emergencies in some of the world’s most fragile contexts. This programme is designed to save lives, protect the most vulnerable, and restore dignity in the face of crisis.

Where We Work

World Vision Ireland’s humanitarian response reaches communities in South Sudan, Somalia, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), countries where protracted conflict, displacement, and climate shocks have left millions in urgent need of assistance. These contexts are marked by extreme vulnerability, with children, women, and displaced populations bearing the brunt of the crises.

What We Do

The programme delivers life-saving humanitarian assistance tailored to each context. This includes:

  • Emergency food aid and nutrition support for malnourished children and pregnant or lactating women
  • Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to prevent disease outbreaks
  • Protection services for children and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV)
  • Temporary learning spaces and education support for displaced children
  • Cash and voucher assistance (CVA) to help families meet urgent needs
  • Psychosocial support and referral pathways for those affected by trauma

These interventions are guided by humanitarian principles and delivered in coordination with local partners, government agencies, and international actors.

Who We Reach

The programme targets internally displaced persons (IDPs), host communities, returnees, and refugees, with a strong focus on women and children. In 2023 alone, World Vision Ireland reached tens of thousands of people with critical support, including:

  • Children affected by conflict and displacement
  • Women and girls at risk of exploitation and violence
  • Families facing acute food insecurity and loss of livelihoods

Our Approach

World Vision Ireland’s humanitarian response is grounded in local partnerships, community engagement, and accountability to affected populations. The programme uses needs assessments, real-time monitoring, and feedback mechanisms to ensure that aid is relevant, timely, and effective.

In addition to direct service delivery, the programme invests in capacity building for local actors, enabling communities to better prepare for and respond to future emergencies. It also integrates gender and protection mainstreaming, ensuring that interventions are inclusive and sensitive to the needs of all groups.
